Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 13, 2026

ProTone helps you understand how a message will land before you send it. Because we read the text you choose to analyze, we take privacy seriously. This policy explains what we collect, what we send to third parties, and what we do not store.

Who we are

ProTone is a Chrome extension and web service operated at protone.work. Our API runs at api.protone.work. Questions: support@protone.work.

What the extension does

When you click ProTone on a text field or use the extension popup, you may submit message text for analysis. The extension may also read text from the active field when you request an analysis. ProTone runs on websites where you write — such as email, chat, and social apps — only when you use it.

What we collect

Message text (submitted by you)

When you run an analysis, the message text, audience, and goal you provide are sent to our API for processing. We do not store message content in our database. Text is processed in real time to return risk, perception, and rewrite suggestions, then discarded on our servers.

Account information (if you sign in)

If you create an account via sign-in, we store:

  • Email address
  • Name and profile picture (if provided by your identity provider)
  • Your plan (Free or Pro) and monthly analysis usage count
  • Stripe customer ID (if you subscribe to Pro)

Local data in the extension

The extension stores an anonymous install identifier, your auth session token, and UI preferences locally in Chrome storage on your device. This data is not shared with other users.

Third-party services

ProTone uses trusted providers to operate the service:

Provider Purpose Data shared
DeepSeek AI analysis of your message Message text, audience, and goal for the duration of the API request
Auth0 Sign-in and account management Email, name, profile picture; authentication tokens
Stripe Pro subscription billing Email and payment details you provide at checkout (handled by Stripe)
Cloudflare API hosting and infrastructure Request metadata (IP address, timestamps); not message bodies in application logs

Each provider has its own privacy policy. Message text sent to DeepSeek is used only to generate your analysis response for that request.

What we do not do

  • We do not build a history or archive of your messages
  • We do not sell your personal data
  • We do not use your messages to train our own models
  • We do not read your messages unless you explicitly trigger an analysis

Data retention

  • Message text: not retained after the analysis request completes
  • Account data: kept while your account is active
  • Usage counts: monthly totals for plan limits (not message content)
  • Billing records: retained by Stripe according to their policies

Security

API traffic uses HTTPS. Authentication tokens are stored locally in the extension. Access to our API requires a valid signed-in session for analysis and billing features.

Your choices

  • Use without signing in: not supported for analysis — sign-in is required to use ProTone
  • Delete your account: email support@protone.work and we will delete your account and associated usage data
  • Cancel Pro: use Manage billing in the extension or contact support
  • Uninstall: remove the extension from Chrome to clear local extension data

Children

ProTone is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. The “Last updated” date at the top will change. Continued use of ProTone after changes means you accept the updated policy.
